The finest thing is
like the moon
As the saying goes, “The moon does not shine by itself, yet it keeps us from losing our way in the dark.” Moonlight is a quiet presence that lingers softly, gently calming the mind. After the hurried hours of the day have passed, it becomes the most tender light—one that allows us to gather ourselves and return inward.
THE CONA Hanok Dalonjae is a hanokstay where moonlight and stillness reside. The traditional structure of a residential hanokbuilt in the 1950s in Anam-dong, Seongbuk-guhas been carefully restored, then reinterpreted with subtle lighting and restrained spatial voids to create a place where the end of the day can be entrusted in full.
The moment you step into this quiet hanokat the end of a narrow alley, the noise of the outside world fades away, and calm light and still air slowly fill the space. Open views toward the courtyard and a layout stripped of unnecessary elements naturally guide guests inward, allowing them tofocus on themselves.
Dalonjae is designed for deep contemplation and rest. The main house includes spaces for restful sleep, a maru, and an area for simple meals. Beyond the courtyard, the detached bathhouse offers a place to cleanse both body and mind beneath the moonlight.
In this gentle glow, emotions and thoughts accumulated throughout the day are quietly released, completing a serene night of rest. Dalonjae proposes a refined way of letting the day come to rest—a form of repose where words grow fewer, movements slow, and the day is softly laid down.
Hanok architecture has evolved over time in response to changes in lifestyles and functions. While rooted in the form and spatial order of traditional wooden structures, it has been reinterpreted as a contemporary living environment by incorporating the comforts and usability suited to life today.
THE CONA Hanok Dalonjae is a space reconstructed with respect for the structure of a residential hanokbuilt in the 1950s. The main house has been carefully planned to focus on staying and rest, removing unnecessary elements and emphasizing spatialflow and generous moments of emptiness.
Spaces opened toward the courtyard are designed to allow views, light, and air to penetrate deep into the interior. As a result, even while indoors, guests can naturally sense the subtle changes of the outdoor environment.
Maru
Maru
The maru of Dalonjaeis the central space where sleep and rest flow seamlessly into one another. A generously sized king bed dressed in five-star hotel bedding is placed to ensure deep and effortless comfort.
At the head of the bed, a custom Barrisolwall created by THE CONA serves as a key design element, softly enveloping the space in diffused light and creating a calm, stable atmosphere.
Opposite the bed stands a table designed by THE CONA and handcrafted by skilled artisans.
Viewed from the table, the rhythmic pattern of the gansallighting brings together Eastern sensibility and modern refinement, completing the spatial experience. From the bed, the landscaped courtyard unfolds in a characteristically serene hanokview, offering a quiet, peaceful scene that naturally settles both body and mind throughout the stay.
Preparation Area
Preparation Area
To the left of the entrance, a tall storage cabinet is provided.
Essential appliances for light use—including a microwave, electric kettle, and coffee machine—are prepared.
The space is thoughtfully arranged to allow guests to make all necessary preparations comfortably and without inconvenience during their stay.
Bathhouse
The annex of Dalonjae is an independent space dedicated to sauna and bathing, designed to gently calm both body and mind at the end of the day.
Its separation from the main house clearly distinguishes time for staying from time for cleansing, creating a deeper and moreintentional rhythm of rest. Soft indirect lighting is applied throughout the space, maintaining a serene atmosphere regardless of the time of day.Immersing the body in warm water under bright yet even illumination allows the fatigue and tension accumulated through daily life to slowly dissolve.
The bath is equipped with a steam sauna, allowing relaxation to continue beyond bathing. A large window opening toward the courtyard offers views of the surrounding landscape and seasonal changes even from indoors. This courtyard-facing composition completes the bathing experience with a heightened sense of comfort and quiet.
